Lake Malawi
Lake Malawi is one of the Great Lakes of Africa, where the pugnacious rock-dwelling Mbunas are found, the large Haplochromine makes the small cichlids shiver and the beautiful Aulonocara displays its radiant colours.

Lake Tanganyika
The oldest and the largest of the Great Lakes, Lake Tanganyika houses one of the most diverse collections of cichlids, from the shore where the goby cichlids are found, the rocky outcrops where the tropheus gets their strict herbivore diets, the sandy bottom featuring the shellies living in snail shells, to the open water where the largest cichlids abound.

South American
Comprising of the dwarf cichlids, Apistogramma and Microgeophagus, to the large predatory and favourite Oscars, South American has the most abundant source of cichlids in the hobby mostly found in the acidic and soft-water of the Amazon basin.

Central American
The highly aggressive and dominant cichlids inhabiting the medium to hard-water rivers of Central America once comprises the large group of Cichlasoma. From the ever-popular Convicts, the large and robust Herichthys to the tough and mean Guapotes, this cichlid group has earned its place in the hobby.

Discus and Angels
The unusual shape of Symphysodon and the Altums makes for an interesting cichlid tank (they are cichlids you know). Their graceful, slow but deliberate movement highly contrast the normal raucous environment of cichlids from the other biotopes.
